On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor plunged the United States into World War II. But what many people don't know is that the attack was just the beginning of a much larger plan by the Japanese to conquer Hawaii.

In the months leading up to the attack, the Japanese had been secretly training a group of pilots to carry out a daring mission: to fly to Hawaii and crash-land their planes on the islands, where they would then sabotage American military installations and infrastructure.

One of these pilots was a young man named Shigenori Nishikaichi. On December 7, 1941, Nishikaichi took off from Japan with a group of other pilots on their mission to Hawaii. But their mission was doomed from the start. Their planes were quickly spotted by American radar, and they were forced to abandon their mission and head back to Japan.

Nishikaichi's plane was damaged in the battle, and he was forced to crash-land on the remote Hawaiian island of Niihau. He was the only survivor of the crash.

The people of Niihau were shocked to see a Japanese warplane crash-land on their island. They had no idea that the Japanese were planning to attack Hawaii, and they were terrified of what might happen next.

Nishikaichi was taken prisoner by the Niihauans, and he was eventually turned over to the American military. He was interrogated by American intelligence officers, and he provided them with valuable information about the Japanese plans for Hawaii.

The capture of Nishikaichi and the crash-landing of his plane on Niihau was a major turning point in the war. It gave the Americans valuable intelligence about the Japanese plans for Hawaii, and it helped to convince the American people that the war was serious.

The story of the Niihau Zero is a fascinating one that has been largely forgotten by history. But it is a story that deserves to be told, because it is a story of courage, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of the human race.

In his book, Before and Beyond the Niihau Zero, author John C. Fredrickson tells the complete story of the Niihau Zero, from its origins in Japan to its aftermath in Hawaii.

Fredrickson has conducted extensive research on the subject, and he has interviewed many of the people who were involved in the events of December 7, 1941. The result is a book that is both informative and deeply moving.

Before and Beyond the Niihau Zero is a must-read for anyone who is interested in World War II history, aviation history, or the history of Hawaii. It is a story that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.
