About the Author

Donald Hall was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1928. He is a Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, essayist, and editor. Hall's work has been translated into more than 20 languages. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal.

Hall is the author of more than 50 books, including the poetry collections Exiles and Marriages (1955),The Dark Houses (1963),and Without (1998). He has also written several books of essays, including String Too Short to Be Saved (1961) and Life Work (1993).

Hall died in Wilmot, New Hampshire, in 2018.
