Richie Furay is a true pioneer of country rock music. As a founding member of both Buffalo Springfield and Poco, he helped to define the genre with his distinctive songwriting and soulful vocals. His songs have been covered by countless artists, including Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles, and Jackson Browne.

In this comprehensive biography, we explore the life and career of Richie Furay. We'll take a look at his early influences, his time with Buffalo Springfield and Poco, and his solo career. We'll also hear from Furay himself, as well as from his friends, family, and fellow musicians.

Early Life and Influences

Richie Furay was born in Yellow Springs, Ohio, in 1944. He grew up in a musical family, and he began playing guitar at an early age. His early influences included folk and country music, as well as the emerging rock and roll sound.

In 1964, Furay moved to Los Angeles to pursue his music career. He soon met up with Stephen Stills, Neil Young, and Jim Messina, and the four of them formed Buffalo Springfield. The band quickly became one of the most popular and influential folk rock groups of the era.

Buffalo Springfield

Buffalo Springfield released three albums during their brief existence, all of which were critical and commercial successes. Furay wrote or co-wrote some of the band's most famous songs, including "For What It's Worth," "Mr. Soul," and "Rock & Roll Woman."

In 1968, Buffalo Springfield disbanded due to creative differences. Furay, Stills, and Young went on to form Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, while Messina and Furay formed Poco.

Poco

Poco released their debut album in 1969. The album was a critical and commercial success, and it helped to establish the band as one of the leading country rock groups of the era.

Poco released a total of 20 albums over the next four decades. The band's lineup changed frequently over the years, but Furay remained a constant member. He wrote or co-wrote many of the band's biggest hits, including "Crazy Love," "Good Feelin'," and "Heart of the Night."

Solo Career

In addition to his work with Buffalo Springfield and Poco, Furay has also released a number of solo albums. His solo work has been more eclectic than his work with his bands, and it has included elements of country, rock, and folk music.

Furay's solo albums have received critical acclaim, but they have not been as commercially successful as his work with Buffalo Springfield and Poco. However, Furay remains a respected and influential figure in the music world.

Legacy

Richie Furay is a true pioneer of country rock music. His songs have helped to define the genre, and he has inspired countless other musicians. He is a Grammy Award winner and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Furay's music continues to be enjoyed by fans around the world. His songs are timeless classics that have stood the test of time. He is a true legend of country rock music.
