Franklin's formal education ended at the age of ten, but he continued to read and learn throughout his life. He apprenticed as a printer with his older brother James. In 1723, he ran away to Philadelphia, where he worked as a printer and publisher.

Franklin died in Philadelphia in 1790. He is buried in Christ Church Burial Ground.
